Aguarunichthys torosus
List of Abreviations
Original Description:
Stewart, D. J. 1986 (4 Aug.) Revision of Pimelodina and description of a new genus and species from the Peruvian Amazon (Pisces: Pimelodidae). Copeia 1986 (no. 3): 653-672.
The genus Aguarunichthys contains three nominal species of which A.torosus is the type.  The group is found only in the Amazon Basin and belongs to the Calophysus-group of Pimelodidae along with Calophysus, Pinirampus, Pimelodina, Luciopimelodus and Megalonema. All species of Aguarunichthys are rare in collections and to our knowledge no dry or cleared and stained skeletal preparations are available.  Accordingly these catscan images are the only source of skeletal data for the genus.
